Ryan offers private lessons, delivered in person or via Zoom.
Areas of study include brass musicianship, specializing in tuba and euphonium, as well as music composition and music theory tutoring.
For brass students, lessons will focus on playing fundamentals as they apply to each individual student. This includes some standard and some specially-written warm-up and technical exercises. In addition, literature studied will come from conversation between Ryan and the student: either typical, standard repertoire for the instrument, music that interests the student or advances goals, or work on specific literature (e.g. honor band or college auditions).
For theory and composition students, lessons will include listening recommendations to discover composers and styles that apply to the student's interests and goals, composition and/or analysis exercises that will help to teach and reinforce various facets, and guidance on growing as a professional in the field (e.g. getting performances, recordings, building a portfolio, etc.).
If you are a student at a local school in Houston, please contact Ryan directly regarding rates, arrangements, and scheduling links for your specific school.

Once payment is made, Ryan will work out your lesson schedule. As possible, for on-going weekly lessons, a regular schedule is preferred. Periodic adjustments, made with advance planning and communication, is always possible. Lessons can be re-scheduled, up to 24 hours in advance of the lesson time. Cancellations within 24 hours of the lesson time may result in the loss of the lesson.
