Dawn of a New Day

This commission project came to me with a great sense of reward and satisfaction, and to rekindle an old friendship from many years ago. I was thrilled for the chance to get to work with Jeff Johns again and to compose this piece for the new building that was being opened for Farquhar Middle School. An extra special opportunity came in my getting to attend the premiere, to rehearse with Jeff’s band, and to conduct the performance as well.

The intent of the work is largely obvious - Farquhar Middle School, in opening a new building, also opened a new chapter in their school’s history.

With this new chapter comes many new possibilities, just as one finds while waking to a new day, with the sunrising to greet us and encourage us to make the most out of all our possibilities.
