It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time

Throughout our lives, we all have encountered some decision that, all things considered, seemed like it was a good decision. Then, in hindsight, we learned it was a bad idea.

We experience this on a societal level, too. At one point, we (our communities, our towns, even our nation) agree that something is a great idea, only to learn down the road that we were way off the mark. Things like margarine.

Our history is full of these examples of folly. And it makes you stop to think about things we’re doing in the here and now. What things that we accept as normal, great ideas are going to be the laughably bad ideas in 20 or 30 years?

As you listen to this work and laugh at the stereotypic advertising contained throughout, stop to think about what we do now. Maybe there are things we’re doing that might have seemed like a good idea at the time, but on second thought - maybe not...
